Winter in Styria
Skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and regional specialities
Snow-covered landscapes, blue skies and gorgeous sunshine – wintertime in the Semmering-Waldheimat-Veitsch region, away from the hustle and bustle of large skiing areas, offers pure fun and relaxation, and not only in the form of skiing and snowboarding. We think you’ll find us the ideal ski slopes for the whole family. Do you prefer mogul pistes, deep-snow slopes or a fairy-tale meadow for your child’s first time skiing in the snow? From Stuhleck to Brunnalm-Hohe Veitsch, you can expect perfectly maintained slopes of all sizes and levels of difficulty. The Schmoll, Annerlbauer and Rinnhofer ski lifts are the smaller but no less lovely ski areas of the region; they captivate visitors with their familiar atmosphere. But even off the slopes, at our legendary refreshment stop, you are guaranteed to make the landing. At our catered cabins, restaurants and inns, let us tempt you with regional specialities and delicacies. Strengthen yourself, for example, with a ‘Fedlkoch’, a typical dessert from our region, before going back to your ‘Brettln’ (skis).
But the best way to enjoy this unique winter mountain panorama is by going on a ski tour or snowshoe hike. Prefer cross-country skiing? No problem! Our cross-country trails with diagonal and skating tracks – also with floodlights – in a wonderful winter landscape invite guests to enjoy cross-country skiing. Romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides, downhill sledging, snow tubing, recreating childhood memories while ice skating or spending time with friends while curling – all this awaits you in the region of Semmering-Waldheimat-Veitsch in wintertime.
Don’t forget that there is much to experience and discover in particular on a winter holiday. There are plenty of traditional observances and customs from All Saints’ Day through Advent and New Year’s Eve to Carnival and Easter. Unique customs of the region, such as the Rotsohler, the Christtagsfreuden (‘Christmas Joy’) path or traditional Advent magic at Pichl Castle, will surprise you and whet your appetite for a holiday in Styria.
