Ski tours for beginners and experts
Veitsch, Alpl, Stanglalm, Teufelstein, Kaarl and Pretul
Stunning stillness, idyllic snowy landscapes and powder – more and more people are flocking to these unblemished winter landscapes. Ski mountaineering is a fascinating sport for the great outdoors that originates in the early days of Alpine climbing and is growing more popular with every year. People are drawn to the way it lets you be alone in the peace of the mountains, far away from the hustle and bustle on the slopes, as well as the sheer enjoyment of skiing off the prepared pistes. Ski mountaineering is a way to experience the mountains on skis, with a descent into the valley through untouched territory.
The area surrounding Hohe Veitsch in the town of St. Barbara im Mürztal or that of the Fischbacher Alps offer the ideal places for beginners and experts alike to go on their ski tours.
Enjoy experiencing skiing away from the hustle and bustle: Dive into time that’s only for yourself and the snow under your skis and enjoy the unique atmosphere of our pristine winter landscape. In the area of the Fischbacher Alps on the Alpl, you will find ‘simple’ ski tours which are especially suitable for newcomers. Some rather easy tours are in the direction of Haureck via Jägerhöhe, Stanglalm or Teufelstein or, if snow conditions permit, the slightly downhill route through the Freßnitzgraben to Krieglach. The tours over Steinriegel and Pretul with downhill runs over Haureck or to Rettenegg are suitable for more experienced hikers.
There are tons of tour options in the areas of Mürzzuschlag and Ganz. In the immediate vicinity of Mürzzuschlag, you can visit Kaarl or Kreuzschober, or climb Pretul via Ganz. The local mountain of the Mürztaler is easy to walk and its trails are always well maintained, which attracts many visitors, especially at the weekend. A stop by the cosy Kaarl cabin at the weekend is very much a part of the experience. If you like things a little quieter, you can ascend via Hönigsbergalm, for example, or via Große Scheibe. The tour over the Moschkogel is particularly striking, with its magnificent view of the wind turbines and the Mürz Valley.
Hohe Veitsch in St. Barbara im Mürztal / Veitsch has already made a name for itself amongst ski tourers. Hohe Veitsch is popular for its moderate length of ascent, mostly well-trodden tracks and rustic cabin for stops. Try the various ascent options via Sonnkogel, Goasstign or Krapfenstein and enjoy the magnificent descent via the well-known ‘Schallerrinnen’. There is a parking lot for ski tourers at Brunnalm-Hohe Veitsch directly by the Alpengasthof Scheikl – the ideal starting point for your ski tour.
Warning: For safety reasons, touring skiers are not allowed to climb the slopes of the Stuhleck ski area, with or without their winter sports equipment strapped on!
